Backstory – The Idea

A few weeks ago, David & Dan, two middleish-aged guys, who have put on a little weight over the past few years, decided to have a weight loss competition.  The competition was intended to do what any competition does, create incentive to do your best.  The idea was a 30-day weight loss competition wherein the person who lost the most weight would be declared the winner.  The loser would have to post a picture of himself in a speedo bathing suit on his respective Facebook page for a period of 2 days – Ouch !

Being marketing folk, we thought this might be just crazy enough to get some attention if we turned it into a fundraiser for a worthy cause.  Giving this money to one of the Haiti Earthquake relief funds was a no brainer.  The idea grew from there.  It is a little self-serving?  Yes.  But if it inspires a few people to donate a few bucks to a worthy cause, while helping us and others to lose a little weight and get a little healthier, then it’s a win-win.

Please let it be noted and perfectly clear that Dan and I recognize that we are not the heaviest people in the world, nor are we the lightest.  We are not out to offend.  This idea was rooted in our desire to look and feel better, not some social commentary about obesity in America.  But let’s face it, many people we know – of course not all – would admit that they wouldn’t mind shedding a few pounds and if this competition gives them that incentive, while doing some good for the people of Haiti, then that’s a good thing.

Our hope is that we inspire people to form their own competitions, sponsor the competition, or just donate a little money to cheer us on or jeer all they like.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 in 30 days!
